The inaugural Jory Claim Pinot Noir is crafted from Pinot Noir grown in the Willamette Valley and made in honor of the historic Jory family that settled in Salem in 1848. Today, the Jory family's homestead in the Salem Hills is part of Jory Claim Vineyard, our new vineyard that is under development and will produce fruit for future vintages.
Early settler families like the Jorys came across the Oregon Trail, rafting down the Columbia River in wagons before a road was cut out to allow passage through the Cascades. The Oregon Legislature designated the State Soil "Jory" after this founding family due to the unique growing qualities of the iron-rich, red volcanic soil. The soil is perfect for growing Pinot Noir as it retains moisture and sustains the vines through the dry growing season.
On the Nose: Ruby in color, the wine features a bright nose of black and red cherries, savory dried herbs and violets.
On the Palate: A fruit-forward palate offering flavors of cranberry and raspberry are accentuated by baking spices over a medium-bodied frame with integrated tannins and balanced acidity.
Limited to one bottle per person.
