After a trip to Germany in 1980, where they stayed with a family that grew wine grapes, Dick and Betty O’Brien returned to Oregon inspired and eager to plant a vineyard of their own.
Betty’s parents, Elton and Peggy Ingram, turned over five acres of the farm for them to plant grapevines. They planted Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in 1983. Elton Vineyard grew over the years from five acres to more than 60 acres.
On the Nose: Gold straw in the glass, the nose abounds with sweet fruit aromas of golden apple, pineapple and lemon curd, with hints of brioche, vanilla and honeycomb from time on lees.
On the Palate: Generous flavors of marzipan, butterscotch, candied lemon and honeydew carry on the palate with a lingering finish.
Food Pairings: An ideal match for savory, aromatic dishes like Tuscan salmon over wild rice, creamy garlic chicken, and caramelized peach Caprese salad.
